Democracy v. Plutocracy

Finally, someone says EXACTLY what needed to be said.  Dylan Ratigan’s Rant expresses precisely why you’re out of work and why your children’s schools are decaying and why banks are moving American capital out of the country as fast as they can and why huge corporations aren’t paying one penny in federal taxes and why everything is so completely and utterly and unbelievably screwed up for Americans and that is MONEY and the complete loss of DEMOCRACY in America!  Our entire elected government, from state to federal levels, are 100% bought, sold, traded and controlled by the wealthy and corporations.  If you do not see that then you are an idiot.  This is not a Democracy any longer but a Plutocracy.  I would highly advise every America that loves Democracy to learn the definitions of those two words and the differences that they will make in their real lives.

Dylan spoke one paragraph that is exactly what would fix 99% of our troubles when he said that the President of the United States HAS TO MAKE A SPEECH ABOUT REAL DEMOCRACY AND THEN FOLLOW UP WITHOUT QUESTION –

I would like him to go to the people of the United States of America and say, “People of the United States of America, your Congress is bought, your Congress is incapable of making legislation on healthcare, banking, trade, or taxes because if they do it, they will lose their political funding and they won’t do it. But I’m the President of the United States, and I won’t have a country that is run by a bought Congress. So I’m not going to work with a bought Congress and try to be Mr. Big Guy … I’m going to abandon the bought Congress like Teddy Roosevelt did, and I’m going to go to the people of the United States to get rid of the bought Congress.” … Until a President says that’s the problem and says he’s going to fix it, there is no policy that I can possibly see no matter how brilliant your idea may be or your idea or my idea or her idea or your idea at home, is that idea will not happen as long as there’s a capacity to basically fire a politician who disagrees with me by taking funding away from him. Is that a fair assessment?

Want to see the entire rant (and watch as the Republican woman tries desperately to change the subject and make everything Obama’s fault again)?  Then just click here for the YouTube video.

Your government is owned because your government put in place a Supreme Court that, in AT LEAST five instances, is 100% owned by the wealthiest and most powerful people in the nation and they do EVERYTHING that they are told to do INCLUDING creating a completely false reality where corporations are considered human beings and money is the exact equivalent of Free Speech. which means very simply that there is no “Free Speech” anymore, it is only money talking.  Have you ever heard of the case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case?  Are you aware that the Supreme Court allowed unlimited money to be spent on electing who they want in government by the wealthy and corporations even though that had nothing to do with the case it was supposedly deciding?

How much “Free Speech” do you have available to you?  If you stand on a street corner and try with all your heart to convince your fellow Americans that American Democracy is failing and that it is MONEY that is the cause, how many people will listen?  How many will look the other way or, more likely, yell at you and call you filthy names like “Liberal” or “Democrat” or that old standby “Commie”?  How many reporters will appear to ask you to explain what you mean and then write a factual report on those issues?  How many of your local representatives will stand beside you?  Hell, how many other Americans will stand up with you and try to tell the truth to anyone that will listen?  How many Congressmen or Senators will listen?  Who wants to talk about what has happened to our Democracy and why are they called crazy when they try?

But go to the offices of those same Congressmen and Senators and show them a check for one million dollars made out to their campaign fund and see how quickly that chair is filled with someone listening to every single word you have to say.  Start a corporation that hires all those Congressman’s and Senator’s family for huge amounts and then expect no work at all and see how easy it is to get your “concerns” heard and acted upon.  Get together with a few other obscenely wealthy people across the country and YOU NOW OWN THE COUNTRY and you can pretend that it is a Democracy while you absolutely know it is a Plutocracy!

Did you see what happened just a few days ago in Wisconsin?  There were six recall elections and money poured in from corporations and the wealthy to keep the Republicans in office while all the recall committees could do is beg for small donations and air a few television ads and walk the streets knocking on doors trying to get the people to understand the issues and get off their asses and vote for Democracy.  They lost in four of the six contests and it was 100% because they were so vastly outspent by the candidates that received basically unlimited funds from the wealthiest people and corporations that wanted them to stay because they were cutting their taxes and attacking unions and workers and closing schools and everything the wealthy want for an unemployed, ignorant populace that stupidly believe they live in a Democracy while everything points to the exact opposite.

Now, get as many people as you can to come over to your little house in the suburbs or apartment and sit down and write letters and try to march and demand changes.  Want to know what will happen?  You will be investigated, that’s a fact.  Your little march will be infiltrated by undercover law enforcement agents who will throw a few rocks then run away when the real cops show up to attack you with tear gas and water cannons and jail.  The “news” will report it as a riot and everything you wanted to express and share with other Americans will be shouted down by the lies of the wealthy and then they’ll go to commercial break and you’ll learn that the germs on your kitchen counter are the gravest threat your family faces.

The ONLY person in this nation right now that can change anything is President Obama.  He is our only hope.  Depressing, isn’t it?  Do you honestly think he will EVER make the speech that Ratigan speaks of?  You want to know why not?  Because he knows that all of the corporate money that got him elected would disappear in a heartbeat and he would be out of a job and we will have Michelle Bachmann or Scary Palin or a Mormon freak that make no attempt at hiding who their owners are and YOU ARE NOT AMONG THEM!  He knows that he would lose the next election regardless of the number of votes he would get because the Supreme Court would step in on some false issue and appoint the Republican again.  That’s our Democracy.

So where do you turn?  The right wing maniacs have unlimited funding from the Koch Brothers and the Walton family and now unlimited corporate funding.  What do the people have?  We have our vote but, like Stalin reportedly said so truthfully,”Those who cast the votes decide nothing; those who count the votes decide everything.”  Bush was appointed President by a 5-4 vote of the Supreme Court in a decision that they clearly stated violated the Constitution and, thus, could never be used as precedence in any other case.  The will of the people is irrelevant, the will of the wealthy is all-encompassing.

So, what do we do?  You can leave your comments below and I’ll always allow them to be read (without vulgar language and link-backs, of course).  You can join together with groups like MoveOn.Org in hopes of being heard or The Coffee Party in hopes of negating the massive damage that the Tea Party has inflicted on your nations. There’s a Facebook group that wants to have a Constitutional Convention to remedy the damages the Supreme Court and Congress have done to your country, although I have no idea how they plan to do that since it will take an act of Congress to authorize such a massive undertaking in the first place.

And who will we fund these various groups?  The right simply created the Tea Party out of thin air, gave it millions in operating funds, hours of television and radio and news time and it went from nothing to the greatest destructive force America has ever seen since slavery (and, yes, I do compare the Tea Party to the KKK simply because of the speeches and slogans and signs the “followers” use).  Where will we, the American people, find such huge financial backing and funding?  If the Almighty Dollar is now in charge of our government, how do we remove it?  How do we regain a Democracy?

Am I suggesting an armed rebellion?  No, because I would be put far away from everyone very quickly if I did that.  Anyway, the people of Poland never picked up a gun that they weren’t allowed to own and they overthrew the second mightiest nation on the planet at the time.  The people of Egypt just removed America’s corrupt puppet and are trying mightily to create an honest democracy there even with the constant threat from the army.  India threw out the British without firing a shot.

It can be done.  But it has to become the most important thing in people’s lives.  It has to become more important than TV.  It has to become more important than mindless, orange prostitutes that prance around proudly showing off their single digit IQs and fat, half naked bodies.  It has to become more important than grown men making millions playing children’s playground games.  It has to be all encompassing in your life.  It has to be what you talk about with your friends and, if they ignore you, they aren’t your friends.  It has to be everything in your world.  Those kids that marched and protested in Egypt didn’t give a rat’s ass about the latest celebrity gossip, they wanted DEMOCRACY!  The kids that the Syrians are killing with tanks just want DEMOCRACY!  The South Africans didn’t fire a shot and they got DEMOCRACY because they DEMANDED it!

It can be done.  Will it happen here or will the wealthy make you so poor and hungry and uneducated that you won’t care anymore and they can move their sweatshops back here to make the cheap crap that the Chinese will be buying?  I’m old.  I can’t do much.  I have to hope that the mindlessness that passes for civilization in America is broken by a few and then a few more and then people take to the streets and then the government will topple under its own weight and we can regain our right to a DEMOCRACY!

I have to hope that.  I lived in the 60s and we hoped that then.  Nothing came of it.  We were just “Hippies”.  We demanded Democracy and were called “Commies”.  We grew up as far as Carter then fell into the cesspool of Reagan and its been downhill ever since.  Now we have Obama.  Will he ever give that speech now or ever?  Will he continue to pretend to be “bipartisan” and give away our future one law and one budget at a time?  Have you ever written to him demanding that he find a spine and represent YOU and not money?  I’ve written dozens and dozens of such letters and all I ever get back are form letters.  If a million people wrote and demanded that speech, if ten million wrote, would he do it?

Want to find out?  It costs you ten minutes of your time and a stamp.  I dare you.  I honestly dare you to write that letter today, tonight.  Write it.  Demand that he be America’s President, not the Corporate President.  They have their own CEOs, he’s supposed to be ours.

  20. Mario says:

Politicians and international bankers can manipulate national economies at will, much in the way the media manipulates your mind, and a decision has been made to impoverish Americans, because global government requires that everyone in the world have an equally low standard of living. Simply put, we’re being robbed of all we’ve worked for, because our government wants us to be poor, hungry, and docile, dependant upon them for our existence, and in fear of them for our lives. The government of the United States is intentionally destroying the economy of the United States, because the politicians and the international bankers they work for have decided that the American way of life, and catering to the demands of the American constitution, is simply too expensive.

    • John Cannon says:

Sadly. I couldn’t agree more. There is a tiny sliver of hope but it gets dimmer every day. Peace.

      • Tian says:

a free election was impilsobse under an occupation. And as per your moralizing about blood on the hands of those advocates of leaving? The blood ,so far of about 800,000 innocents and 3500 American soldiers is already indelibly on your hands if you approved of the illegal and immoral invasion.

        • Shifa says:

Demands are ineffective and caerte enemies. When we really want change we have to go out there and caerte bridges and work WITH people and not against them.Do you let people come up to you and demand what they want from you? No. Does demanding make you more or less likely to work with them? Less.Get involved with the people you want to influence. Gain your own influence through respectful interactions with them.Be the change you want to see.
